Those are the wise words of Angela Foster – a nutritionist, health and performance coach, author and host of the
A good friend of us here at Red Light Rising, Angela has been kind enough to share some of her thoughts on her personal wellness journey, her career, of course her love of red light therapy and why we need to look at our health span as well as our life span.
Rewind six years ago and Angela’s life was on a completely different trajectory. As a corporate lawyer working in London, Angela managed multinational deals and from the outside in, she was smashing it. But that success took a toll on her health.
“I got to a point where I just felt really burnt out from all of the long hours. I really struggled with my health and ended up in hospital with double pneumonia. That was a turning point for me. I really needed to take a look at my health and make some significant changes to my lifestyle.”
From there she began a journey of self-discovery and self -optimisation which quickly turned into a passion. She wanted to share the tools and knowledge she’d gained from her own experience with others so they too could take control of their own health.
And so, Angela Foster Performance was born. Angela now works with high-powered clients including CEOs, entrepreneurs, executives, top athletes and corporate groups. By combining modern science and biohacking, with time-honoured holistic health practices, Angela works to transform the health of her clients focusing specifically on their genetics and following a
tailored approach to wellness.
“The biggest thing people realise when they start working with me is how much greater
control they have over their own health than they first thought. Everyone sees an
improvement in their energy, they get sick less, they sleep better, they can manage their
stress and blood pressure.
“Some of the best results I see are around clients gaining deeper levels of sleep, which just
has a profound impact on everything, on their own businesses or work and their physical
performance. Sleep is something we all need, but it’s surprising how many people struggle
with it and carry on week in and week out running on empty. If you can fix your sleep
patterns, a lot of other things fall into place.”
We first met Angela at a biohacking event where we exchanged expertise and ideas and recognised a common business ethos, to empower others to take control of their own health. Angela was interested in red light therapy for herself and her clients and quickly became a fan of our lights.
“I had read a lot about red light therapy and was interested in having a device at home, but
the only company I knew about was in the US. I discovered Red Light Rising and liked their
emphasis on ensuring the lights had the optimal strength and zero flicker so there was no
cognitive strain on the brain and eyes as a result of using the lights. Also, by not having
flicker there’s no down time so you’re getting a really concentrated red light on your skin.”
“From my own perspective, I’ve really noticed the energy–boosting, anti-ageing and skin
health benefits the most. I find it really useful during the winter months in the UK as it
“I’ve taken a real interest in light and its effects on our health. I use my red light in the
morning while I’m doing a meditation, so I’m getting full body exposure both on the front
and on the back. I also read in front of it sometimes and have it on while I’m working just as
an ambient light. If I’ve got particular areas of pain or inflammation then I’ll do a targeted

Drawing from her own experience and the published clinical evidence on the efficacy of red
light therapy, Angela has begun recommending it to her clients.
“I recommend it for all sorts of things as it’s such a diverse wellness tool. For example, one
of my clients has been recovering from burns and it’s great for promoting healing and for
skin health. It can also be helpful for concussions, it’s popular particularly among women for
“The benefits are immeasurable. I’m writing a book at the moment on health and
performance and I talk about red light therapy within that.”
When it comes to facing up to the sceptics, Angela is steadfast. It just works, it’s as simple as that.
“There are always going to be sceptics with anything new like this, but there are so many
published studies proving its efficacy. It’s very science and data driven which is one of the
reasons I like it, it’s not just some kind of ‘woo woo’ thing.”
She believes the growing awareness of health and wellness, and the rise of wearable technology has helped to open up peoples’ minds to unconventional therapies like red light, particular during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“What I’ve found during lockdown is that people are realising that there’s a greater need for
health optimisation and perhaps they have a little more time to dedicate to their own
wellness. While there are people furloughed or navigating unemployment, there are others
who are managing the extra pressure of home schooling kids while they hold down a full
time job from home. It has blurred the lines between work and family life, so it’s about
looking at their time and restructuring their day to make the most of their health. Red light
therapy can fit seamlessly into that.”
“I think the rise of wearable technology has also helped to focus people’s minds on their
health and the different health indicators. There’s also much more access to diagnostic
tools, blood tests and gut tests, both practitioner led and direct to consumer. It’s putting
health back into people’s hands. This generation seems much more aware of health and the
old adage, ‘there’s a pill for every ill’, doesn’t really fly anymore. People’s life expectancy is
so great these days, people are realising that they’re likely to live for a long time so they
want to make sure they live a quality life. The focus is on health span just as much as life
